The 2nd dry stone school was, once again a celebration for collective work.
We came together and learn together, co-create, co-design and had lots of fun!
It took place the last weekend of March in Tilos.
The school's events are co-planned and co-implemented by those who participate in the community meetings of the Petra Tilos.
a school by and for everyone
The 2nd dry stone school of Petra Tilos aimed to raise awareness among Tilos community about the art of dry stone and the environmental impact of dry stone constructions.
The school lasted 2 days and was co-designed and co-implemented with the participation of the local community. Since January 2025, around 10 members of the local community have participated in the open meetings, proposed and design the school's program and 2 parallel activities that took place during the school.
The building "lessons" and the restoration of the dry stone wall took place on the Megalo Chorio - Agios Antonis path
The path might be a short one but it's one of the busiest ones! During the last decates a lot of children from Agios Antonis walked it everyday to go to their school in Megalo Chorio. Today it's one of the post popular paths of the island.
Over 25 people from the local community managed to restore over 50+ meters of dry stone wall and to clean the wider area from wild bushes and stones.
the events
During the dry stopne school the team held a screaning of two (new) documentaries in the kafenio (cafe) of Megalo Chorio. The docs "Collective Work" and "Life in Tilos in the old days" are available (with english subtitles) at Petra Tilos You Tube channel.
